The 8th Annual 2015 ZnaNorcal Koi Show
Koi Show News8th Zen Nippon Airinkai
2015 NorCal Koi Show
Feb 28 & Mar 1, 2015

Welcome to our 8th Annual open ZNA NorCal Koi Show.

The ZNA NorCal Koi Show is mainly about education, with an opportunity to learn and improve our koi knowledge. We want to invite and encourage ALL koi hobbyists, whether members of a club or not, to participate and enter their beautiful Nishikigoi into our show. This is a great way to learn koi appreciation, receive valuable feedback on your koi and share in the camaraderie with friends, old and new.

We ask ourselves, “Why are we here”? The answer is simple, we are all koi kichies who love koi and promote the hobby, share the joy of koi and make friends who share the common goals of Nishikigoi keeping.

We never imagined that koi can be so addictive, which helps to keep us all humble. We watch them day in/day out, feed and care for them, clean and maintain their “home”.

All this joy brings us together, regardless of what size pond one has or what quality koi we keep. We are all bonded together as koi kichies.

Take time out to thank the entrants for sharing their koi with us and thank the vendors who do so much to support the club and above all the hobby.

When this year’s show is over and the last tank is drained and dried, we will take our charges home and re-live the memories of what each of us learned. Each day we continue to experience the pleasure of koi keeping.

Join us and experience our koi show and renew and create new friendships.

Yours in Koi

Article: The 4th Annual 2010 ZnaNorcal Koi Show by Dinh Nguyen
Koi Show News2010 Northern California ZNA Koi Show
By Dinh Nguyen

The Northern California ZNA Koi Show is one of the premier Koi shows in America. The ZNA NorCal club will host the 4th Annual Show at the Holiday Inn, 1740 North First Street, San Jose, California, November 13th and 14th, 2010.

2009 ZNA Norcal Grand Champion Winner

Last year’s show was also held at the same location where it had thousands of people in attendance. This is one of the highest quality koi competitions in which participants from across the nation including North Carolina, Texas, Oregon, Hawaii, Kentucky, California, and others competed with entries in various categories, including sizes, color and pattern. Larry Gill, the president of ZNA NorCal, has been travelling around the world for koi judging and seeing many beautiful fish, said that he is very honored to see his home club have some of the best quality koi. “ZNA NorCal show is the home of Gosanke,” said James Reilly, the USA ZNA District Chairman. The Gosanke is the top three and most popular of the Koi categories including Kohaku, Sanke and Showa. These three categories are the most highly contested of all the various koi varieties.

Judging will begin at 9:30 AM Saturday November 13, and should be completed by 2:00 PM on the same day. The show results will be announced, and the awards will be handed out, during the Saturday Show Banquet and Awards Ceremony. There will be a Grand Champion for the greatest fish of the show, also Reserve Grand Champion, Mature, Adult, Young and Baby Champion, Best in Size, as well as other awards.

Koi Seminars will be presented on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free and open to the public. Seminars will be performed by: Judge Ray Jordan from Texas, Devin Swanson from Minnesota, Tom Hernandez from the Philippines, and Dr. Richard Porter from Florida. A variety of subjects including: how to select quality Koi, experiences with KHV virus, Life in the Nishikigoi World with Koi Masters, are among the topics.

Judging comments on the winning Koi will be presented by the Koi Judges On Sunday morning during a “walk around” of all the display tanks. All questions are welcome at this time. The judges will provide insight into why certain fish were awarded prizes and what makes one fish better quality than another.

More than 33 tanks have been reserved for housing these excellent fish during the event.
2009 ZNA NorCal Grand Champion Award
The show will also offer various vendors from across the country, including koi/goldfish dealers, pond builders, artists, bonsai and dry goods. This year the Show also has a Solar Energy Company as a new vendor. Here is the chance for you to meet the solar experts for "Pond goes Solar".

Sam Adina, a bonsai designer, will be given a bonsai demonstration on both Saturday a
There are many items donated by sponsors, vendors, and members for raffle and auction to benefit the club. In addition to fund raising, "the raffle and auction is part of the fun and entertainment for the event", said Ann Nguyen, the youngest member of the ZNA Norcal Koi Club.

The ZNA (Zen Nippon Airinkai) NorCal Club is a chapter of the US District of the ZNA International Organization, which is headquartered in Japan and is a non-profit club. It is the youngest ZNA Chapter in America. “It is the most active chapter with many serious hobbyists,” said Ron Goforth, former Chairman of USA ZNA District. The main purpose of the show is about education, a chance to learn about koi improvement, koi keeping knowledge, and sharing and enjoying the beauty of the fish. Nishikigoi is originated from Japan with the deepest of appreciation of Nishikigoi as “living art” or “living Jewelry”. In addition to the appreciation of the beauty of Nishikigoi, ZNA members hold to the same spirit of “Friendship through Scales” which is the international motto of the organization. We are now forging and building friendship through the hobby all over the world. We invite you all to attend the NorCal Koi Show for enjoyment and appreciation of the Nishikigoi experience as well as building friendships.
